Flying the Airbus A320-214 “Natural” with Azores Airlines
26 dez 2025
Some flights are memorable because of where they take you. Others, because of what they make you feel.
This one was both.
On the evening of December 26th, 2026, I barely left Christmas celebrations to board CS-TKQ, an Airbus A320-214 from Azores Airlines fleet, affectionately named “Natural”. Seeing the aircraft up close again, this time not through a lens at the airport fence, but from the boarding latter, immediately felt special.
As an aviation photographer and enthusiast, registrations aren’t just letters and numbers, and CS-TKQ is one I’ve crossed paths with before.
This time, however, I wasn’t there to capture her departure. I was about to fly aboard.
Seated in 1C, I had a front-row perspective of the flight deck environment. Even though I could not see the cockpit for obvious reasons, I was close enough to sense what is happening up front, even if only subtly.
During the approach into Lisbon, something genuinely caught me off guard. I heard the autopilot disengage sound.
It’s a sound I know very well from flight simulation and one I’ve heard countless times through speakers and headphones while flying virtual A320s. But hearing it in real life, from my seat, was something else entirely.
I’ve flown many other times, but never close enough to hear it, nor even particularly interested in due to many other reasons, like chatting with my friends and family or just relaxing with my music on. It may sound like a small detail, even a dull one to most passengers, but for me, it was honestly a moment of pure joy.
One of the most rewarding moments for a planespotter is seeing an airline featuring one of his photos and this just happened in 2024, when Azores Airlines featured a photo I took from this exact same aircraft on their official Instagram account.
For someone who spends time documenting aviation from the outside, this kind of recognition feels incredibly meaningful. It’s a reminder that passions projects, when pursued consistently, can come full circle.
Flipping through the onboard shopping catalogue, I couldn’t help but stop at the Azores Airlines A320 1:200 miniature.
As someone who appreciates aviation, not only in the air, but also in physical form, this is definitely a model I’d love to add to my collection one day!
